Happy 82nd Birthday!

Birthday.... kinda... sorta for director Tex Avery’s and animator Bob Clampett’s off the wall character Daffy Duck who first appeared in the short Porky’s Duck Hunt released April 17, 1937.

The gangly, black-feathered duck whose explosive temperament and insatiable ego lead him into an endless series of comic misadventures. He is a cornerstone of the Warner Bros. stable of animated characters. In his early days Daffy was a hyperactive, at times silly, character whose madcap capers were fueled by an unpredictable personality. His frequent sidekick was the bashful and stammering Porky Pig. Daffy’s own manner of expression included a prominent lisp often accompanied by the expelling of saliva.

By the 1950s Daffy was struggling to reclaim the spotlight from Bugs Bunny, who had become the leading Warner Brothers character. Led by Chuck Jones, the directors of this era brought out a darker side of Daffy’s personality, showing him as desperately self-glorifying and consumed by jealousy—though also more introspective. Perhaps the defining moment for this interpretation was Jones’s Duck Amuck (1953), in which an omnipotent animator torments Daffy by shuffling him between quickly changing backgrounds, dropping props in and out of the scene, and even briefly erasing him. The culprit turns out to be none other than Bugs Bunny himself.

Daffy remains a staple of the Warner Bros. franchise, including the 1980s television series The Bugs Bunny and Tweety Show and the 1996 feature film Space Jam. From his first appearance through 1989, Daffy Duck was performed by famed voice actor Mel Blanc. In later years he was voiced by a number of actors, notably Joe Alaskey and Jeff Bennett.

Hope the weather isn't too severe. Wouldn't want you to get marooned down on the farm.

Think the weather could be a tornado spawner. Watching the election results from up there in Alberta and sounds like a major victory for UCP. 62/24 ...

We are used to dodging tornadoes around here. This house as survived 3 nearby twisters in it's history. We are still cleaning up from the last one 3 years ago.

Thanks for updating me on the election results. Now I don't have to open my TV. I can go to bed crying. Much like US federal politics, this Alberta election has an extreme left party and an extreme right party. There is no centre ground. With extreme polarization, nothing on the government agenda gets accomplished because of the totally polarized opposition. It doesn't make for good government; just a waste of 4 years.

Hope you don't get any tornadoes.

Rachel Notworthy nose dived in a rejection of Tudon'ts coal tax and the realization to make money pump the oil out get it into a pipeline to get it sold. The rise in the minimum wage only contributed to the increase in the price of food and gas. That globalist carbon Tax will be GONE in first 100 days of UPC. Jason Kenny and his Big Blue truck did it.

I have seen many ducks before but have never seen a black duck species. Daffy was one of a kind.

Let's hope the unique qualities live on. We will set down for dinner in the evenings and toss cartoons on the TV to watch while we eat.
